Working together

We want everyone working at the Home Office to feel valued, respected, and confident being themselves. For us, that means developing a culture where equality and inclusion shape how we treat one another, and where everyone has the space to grow in their own way.

Being open about our progress is part of that commitment. Each year, we publish our diversity targets and the progress we’ve made. It’s an ongoing journey – one that includes being a Disability Confident Leader and working to become truly neuroinclusive. But we know there’s always more to do. More understanding of people’s needs, more flexibility in how we work, and more support to help everyone reach their potential.

Our values

Our values were created by colleagues. They reflect who we are, how we work, and guide what we do.

What colleagues have to say

The best way to really understand what it’s like to work here is to hear from the people who do.

Wellbeing means different things to different people. We offer an Employee Assistance Programme and a range of support networks, so colleagues can find the help they need and never feel like they’re navigating things alone.

Our support networks include:

Logo with black wording, 'Spectrum' and 'The Home Office LGBT+ Network' with a series of narrow vertical stripes in different colours on the left hand side.

Our LGBT+ support network gives colleagues across the UK and overseas a place to support each other, socialise, and network.

Colourful illustrated figures holding hands, representing accessibility and inclusion, with figures using a wheelchair and a cane.

Our network for colleagues who have a disability or long-term health condition. ABLE raises awareness, encourages connection, and makes sure everyone has the support they need to thrive.

Crossing ribbon‑like shapes in yellow, black, green and red, arranged diagonally with wording 'The Network' beneath.

Our ethnic minority network gives colleagues a space to connect, share experiences, and celebrate diversity, while increasing the awareness and understanding of ethnic minority issues.

Creating fair opportunities

Being inclusive goes beyond what we say – it’s about what we do.

That’s why we follow the latest Equality, Diversity and Inclusion standards throughout our recruitment process, to make sure every stage is fair, supportive and accessible.

As part of this, all CVs are anonymised and our selection methods are bias-tested, so we assess applications purely on skills and experience. We’re committed to reviewing our processes regularly and using evidence-based improvements to make our recruitment more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

We’re proud to be a Disability Confident Leader and we want every candidate to have the opportunity to fully participate in our recruitment processes and show their full potential. We’re committed to providing support and reasonable adjustments for candidates who are disabled, neurodivergent, or have long-term health conditions, in line with the Equality Act 2010.

We respect that each disabled person’s needs will be different. Whether it is a British Sign Language interpreter or additional time during an interview, requests for adjustments will be reviewed carefully and treated in confidence. The information that you share with us as part of this request will not affect how your application proceeds.

Learn more about how to request an adjustment on our website.
