You can find all current vacancies on our job search page. When you select a role, you’ll be directed to the Civil Service Jobs website, where you can learn more and apply.
We follow the Civil Service Commission’s recruitment principles, which means we seek to recruit on merit through open competition and treat every candidate fairly.
We recruit for a wide range of roles, so while we can’t outline every selection process here, each job advert will clearly state what we’re looking for and how we’ll assess your application.
Check you’re eligible
Before applying, please make sure you meet the following requirements.
1. Right to work in the UK
You must have the legal right to work in the UK. If it’s time-limited, you’ll need to maintain it throughout your employment.
2. Nationality requirements
These vary depending on the role. Please check the job advert carefully to confirm your eligibility.
Using AI in your application
Artificial Intelligence can be a useful tool to support your application; however, all examples and statements provided must be truthful, factually accurate, and taken directly from your own experience. Where plagiarism has been identified (presenting the ideas and experiences of others, or generated by artificial intelligence, as your own), applications may be withdrawn and internal candidates may be subject to disciplinary action.
Please see the Civil Service candidate guidance for more information on appropriate and inappropriate use of AI tools.
How we’ll assess your application
To assess applications, we use the Success Profiles framework, which has five elements:
- Ability
- Behaviours
- Experience
- Strengths
- Technical
You can find out more about what each element means in the [information note on Success Profiles for candidates].
For some roles, we use Professional Technical Frameworks to help assess candidates. If a role needs this framework, the job advert will state this and provide more details.
Reasonable adjustments
As a Disability Confident Leader, we’re committed to making sure our process works for everyone. If you have a disability that may put you at a disadvantage, we can adapt our process to support you.
Please let us know what you need in the ‘assistance required’ section on the ‘additional requirements’ page of your application. Adjustments can include, for example:
- Wheelchair access
- A language service professional for your interview
- Sharing questions in an accessible format
- Extra time at interview
If you need adjustments to complete the application itself, contact the person listed in the job advert. It’s best to discuss your needs early, before the closing date.
Guaranteed interview schemes
We offer an interview to candidates who meet the minimum criteria in the job advert under the following schemes:
- Candidates with a disability, as part of the Disability Confident scheme
- Veterans, in line with the Great Place to Work initiative
- Civil servants at risk of redundancy
If you want to be considered under one of these schemes, please complete the relevant section of the online application form.
